Born out of necessity, STAND+ (formerly known as Gales®) started in 2020 as a lifeline for nurses and healthcare workers, with antimicrobial, bleachable, fluid-barrier protection. Not only a safeguard against infectious fluids and diseases, STAND+ pioneered energy-dispersive technology that actively reduces foot pressure and joint pain, offering a lifeline during grueling shifts.
The genesis of STAND+ traces back to a pivotal moment in 2008 when founder Rob Gregg worked 16-hour days in a mailroom and his workplace shoes were inflicting blisters and backaches. Lacking options, Rob developed his own design that caught the attention of a local Italian cobbler and led to the start of his first footwear line designed with cloudlike comfort.
From humble beginnings in a shoe-boxed-sized New York apartment to gracing the pages of GQ, Rob's vision attracted attention from athletes, celebrities, and professionals alike. However, it was a pivotal encounter during the pandemic that ignited a new purpose. As a donor and volunteer for a nurse-led charity organization, Rob discovered healthcare professionals were not only suffering bodily aches and pains from inadequate footwear, but they were inadvertently contracting and spreading life-threatening diseases through their shoes. Determined to make a difference, Rob spent the next 18 months collaborating with healthcare professionals to engineer a solution - STAND+
