Celebrating Pride Month🌈

Happy Pride Month! As festivities are well underway, we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the meaning of this month and outline ways that we can all give back, educate ourselves and stand in solidarity with the LQBTQ+ community.

Pride Month is visually represented by the rainbow flag that was first introduced to the world by artist and activist Gilbert Baker in 1978. In the years since, it has become a symbol of inclusion, respect, and the gay liberation movement and LGBTQ+ community.

Pride takes place in June every year, as the month has a significant meaning; the Stonewall riots were important protests that took place in June 1969 in the US that changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and around the world.

Since then, Pride has become a celebration of people coming together to celebrate how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and also to remind us that we still have work to do as a society to ensure equal rights for all.

We encourage you to get those rainbow flags hung and adorn your most colorful clothes, but outside of wearing all the colors of the rainbow, there are many other ways you can respectfully celebrate Pride Month. Attend local Pride parades and celebrations to show your support, educate yourself on the history of the LQBTQIA+ community by reading online articles, books or watching movies, and donating your time or resources to a cause that supports the ongoing efforts to ensure equality and respect for all.

The story evolves to show his family’s journey of learning how to accept their son, despite not agreeing with his life choices.

LQBTQ+ Charities and Nonprofits To Get Involved In

ACLU

The American Civil Liberties Union, aka the ACLU, steps in to make sure that all people—no matter who they are or who they love—are given the rights and liberties they are guaranteed under the law.

The ACLU is an advocate for all communities, especially the LQBTQ+.  They work in the courts and legislatures to uphold the Constitution, filing court cases when they see injustices and working with law and policymakers to ensure equal rights for all. Your donation will help enable litigation, lobbying, and education.

Out & Equal

Out & Equal is a non-profit dedicated to ensuring that all workplaces—across all industries—have a culture of belonging, so employees can feel safe and appreciated. Your donation will help the Out & Equal team as they work with executives, HR, and DE&I professionals, and LGBTQ+ employee resource group leaders to train them on how to better their workplaces from the inside out.

No matter how you choose to celebrate Pride Month, it is a time to stand with the LQBTQ+ community and remember the past, honor the present and pave the way for the future. Pride is so much more than parades, parties, and rocking rainbow-inspired outfits, it’s about accepting people exactly as they are.💙💚💜💛🌈
