An Interview with Alije Babb, a General Medicine Nurse

We love nothing more than sitting down with healthcare workers and learning all about their experience in their field, what makes them do what they do, and of course their experience with Gales®.

In honor of Black History Month, we sat down with Alije Babb, a General Medicine Nurse, to get her take on the importance of the month and learn more about her experience in healthcare thus far.

Tell us a little about yourself?

Hi my name is Alije Babb and I’m a general medicine nurse in Oklahoma City, OK. My job consists of assisting different units such as primary care and recovery. I have just reached my 17 month (about 1 and a half years) mark and am looking to pursue my BSN in Nursing Fall 2023.

What do you think is the most important takeaway from Black History Month?

Black History Month is so important to me because it means remembering Black history from the past and the present. Continuing to tell the story of the culture and influence all around the world. It allows us to focus on the importance of continuing conversations about race and the respect the black community deserves.

What first sparked your interest in pursuing a medical career?

My interest in the medical field started when I began my first phlebotomy training at a tech school in Norman. I was freshly 18 years old and began clinical training in a learning hospital. I loved the medical staff that I got to learn from and observe as well as the patients that I had the pleasure of caring for. Belonging to a great team and having wonderful patients makes the long shifts worthwhile.

If there is one piece of advice you could give a nursing student, what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice to nursing students, it would be to learn from your mistakes and never be afraid to ask questions. Do not forget to take care of your health, whether it's your personal or mental health.

How do you find time for/what do you do to prioritize your mental wellness?

Therapy and truly taking advantage of my days off is how I prioritize my mental health. I like to try new things like Zumba, going to museums and lately I’ve been really into bowling. Spending time with friends and family also helps me recharge my battery before returning to work.

Lastly, why do you love Gales®?!

I love my Gales® for so many reasons! They feel like little clouds on my feet throughout the day. Gales are easy to wash which I really appreciate. The amount of time I can spend on my feet without any discomfort is my favorite thing about these shoes. As someone with Plantar Fasciitis having shoes like Gales® are a game changer.
